Dworzec Tatrzański Zakopane
Tatra Railway Station Zakopane
The building was erected near Krupówki on the initiative of the Tatra Society in 1881; it housed the offices of the Society, a library with a reading room and a ballroom.
Lectures, concerts and theatre performances were held there, too. The famous personages performing there included Mieczysław Karłowicz, Helena Modrzejewska, Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Henryk Sienkiewicz. When the building burnt down completely during one of the Carnival revelries at the beginning of the new millennium, a decision was made to restore it as a brick building. In the rebuilt Railway Station, a restaurant was additionally opened – it became a favourite meeting place for Zakopane elites. Today the Tatra Railway Station houses the offices of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK) and the Circle of Tatra Guides.
